Control Technology is at the heart of every system. It makes a significant contribution to optimizing processes and movements, as well as to improving cost efficiency and optimizing machine productivity. As part of a comprehensive automation technology, control technology encompasses the design and implementation of machine control—that is, the targeted influence on the behavior of pneumatic and electrical systems. At Festo, we distinguish between pneumatic, electro-pneumatic, and electronic control systems.
Pneumatic and Electropneumatic Control Technology
Pneumatic and electro-pneumatic control units make it easy to implement logical sequences in pneumatic systems. To ensure the logical sequence of the program, cycle stages are used in pneumatic solutions. At Festo, these are represented by TAA or TAB cycle generators. A cycle cascade consists of a certain number of command memory modules, also known as dual pilot valves. Our SBA-2N-PK-3 command memory module allows you to link repetitive start, stop, and delay functions and, of course, can be combined with TAA and TAB clock generators. The double pilot valves are connected to the control system in such a way that a switching step can only be initiated when it is actually its turn. A cycle step module is assigned to each individual cycle, ensuring a clear system structure at all times. The final component used is the Festo VLG clock generator, which can be used to generate continuously adjustable signals in controllers. It is particularly suitable for fast movements in diaphragm cylinders, as well as in single- and double-acting cylinders.

Electronic Controllers
Our electronic control technology includes modern, compact, and versatile programmable logic controllers. In automation, various control systems are used depending on the application and industry. Currently, you can purchase the CECC electronic controller from us, which allows programming using CODESYS in accordance with IEC 61131-3. It features 12 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, and two additional high-speed counters up to 250 kHz. Easy data transfer is possible via the USB interface.

Electrical Peripheral Devices
In the field of electrical peripheral devices, Festo offers modules and individual components for specific automation systems, as well as complete automation platforms and control systems. The Festo product range includes, for example, two remote I/O systems: the CPX-AP-A and CPX-AP-I. The automation platform (AP) allows you to connect up to 80 freely combinable modules or pneumatic islands to a network interface for each system or in combination with both. It optionally includes IO-Link for easy and direct connection of sensors via bidirectional communication with comprehensive diagnostics and configuration of sensor parameters and other devices. Part of our core product range is our CTEU industrial network module, which is suitable for use on VTUG, MPA-L, and VTOC pneumatic islands. Our other peripheral devices feature built-in diagnostics and maintenance functions, analog input and output modules, and a powerful remote I/O system. The CPX-E automation system can be used as a remote I/O system or, in combination with a CODESYS controller, serves as a modern control system for motion control tasks. It perfectly complements IO-Link.

Operator Panels
Our operator panels feature a “Human-Machine Interface” (HMI) that allows you to operate the machine, monitor the system status, and intervene in the control process. The information recorded by the HMI is made available to the operator through the visualization on the operator panel. Some Festo operator panels feature a diagnostics function (CDSB-A1), a remote access option (CDPX), or an integrated reporting and user management system in conjunction with our robotics library.
As a human-machine interface, the CDPX operator panel offers a wide range of functions for simple visualization tasks, such as process data, or complex system control using CODESYS, EtherCAT, and Profinet Master. As an explosion-proof model with an IP65 rating, it is ideal for process automation.
